5 Tips when Considering Egg Donation Abroad

Many hundreds of Irish patients travel abroad for Egg Donation every year. At any one time there are many hundreds more researching how to go about this. Fertility treatment comes with emotional and financial stress so here are our top 5 tips when considering treatment abroad:

1. Choose a clinic with established links in Ireland

When having treatment abroad you will be required to have scans and blood tests in Ireland. A fast turnaround is required on these results, usually the same-day. At ReproMed we facilitate scans and bloods for patients having treatment abroad at all of our sites; Dublin, Galway, Drogheda, Kilkenny & Cork. Our sister clinic, ReproScan also facilitates patients travelling abroad at their clinics in Swords, Dundrum, Waterford, Galway & Cork. We also provide a prescription transcription service for any patients who need to avail of this.

2. Choose a clinic with coordinators based in Ireland

Having your own coordinator to guide you through the process can make things much easier. At ReproMed we have dedicated Donor Egg Coordinators who will be by your side through your treatment plan. There is no question or concern they haven't heard before so you are guaranteed to be in safe hands.

3. Choose a clinic who can bring your embryos back to Ireland for transfer.

At ReproMed, we ship the male partners sample to Finland to allow creation of your embryos. The embryos are then frozen at the blastocyst stage and returned to Ireland. You do not need to travel for any part of our Egg Donation program with our partner clinics in Finland.

4. Choose a clinic where minimal travel is required.

If you choose to have anonymous Egg Donation the most popular destinations are Spain or Czech Republic. Due to Irish legislation on Donor Anonymity you must travel to these clinics for your embryo transfer. At ReproMed & ReproScan we can facilitate pre-treatment investigations such as Hysteroscopy, Endometrial Biopsy & SIS (Aqua Scan). We also ship semen samples to Iscare clinic  in Prague for patients meaning that your stay in Prague can be very short since you only have to be there on the day of embryo transfer.

5. Choose a clinic based on Doctors recommendations (not Google!)

Since ReproMed is part of the largest European group of fertility clinics, Futurelife, our consultants have regular meetings with their colleagues across Europe from clinics such as Gennet, Iscare, Reprofit & Ovumia. The medical team in ReproMed can recommend a clinic abroad for you based on their medical expertise.
